I remember as a child how excited I was when my dad first took me to a market in Turkey. The intimacy between merchant and customer, the variety of food, craft and wears, the unique stench that was disturbingly pleasing. There was also this feeling of informality and the rare occurance of being a part of one that enhanced the whole experience. Going to a market, since then, has always been a rather different experience for me than a mere shopping spree. 

Luckily, Cape Town does not fall short of markets, many of which are great, many of which will provide a perfect day out. So spare me a few minutes of your time, as I introduce you to some of the better markets around the Mother City.
